Description

In The Kind Diet, actress, activist, and committed conservationist Alicia Silverstone shares the insights this encouraged her to swear off meat and dairy forever, and outlines the impressive benefits of adopting a plant-based diet, from effortless weight loss to clear skin, off-the-chart energy, and smooth digestion. She explains how meat, fish, milk, and cheese—the very foods we’ve been taught to regard as the cornerstone of good nutrition—are actually the culprits behind escalating rates of disease and the cause of dire, potentially permanent damage to our ecology.

Yet going meat- and dairy-free doesn’t indicate suffering deprivation; to the contrary, The Kind Diet introduces irresistibly delicious food this satisfies on each altitude—it even consists of amazing desserts to keep the much stubborn sweet tooth happy. Alicia in addition addresses the nutritional concerns faced by many who are new to a plant-based diet, and shows how to cover each nutritional base, from protein to calcium and beyond.

Alicia recognizes this varying life-long dietary habits is a process, and this every person progresses at a different pace. For this reason, The Kind Diet encompasses 3 separate levels, from Flirting to Superhero. Flirts study to dip a toe into the vegan pool, reducing their meat-eating and swapping out a few key foods for plant-based substitutes to see shortly how even small changes can reap big outcomes. Vegans get to experience the life-altering results of forgoing animal-products entirely, while still enjoying many convenience foods and meat substitutes in addition to the wonderful grains, vegetables and fruits this shape the core of this diet. True enlightenment comes together with the Superhero program, based on the principles of macrobiotics and built on a foundation of whole grains, vegetables, and other yummy foods this Alicia describes in detail.

Whether your goal is to drop a few pounds, boost your energy and metabolism, or just save the world, Alicia offers the encouragement, the information, and the tools you want to do the transition to a plant-based diet deliciously empowering.

Customer rating is 4 of 5  great book!   2010-03-10
By penelope (california)
i was finally able to find this book somewhere and on sale none the less! this book was sold out in every book store imaginable! so when i found it on amazon and on sale i grabbed it! this is a great book for someone just wanting to know the simple facts about eating better and how to start slowly incorporating it in your life. the recipes are great and although eating healthier is more expensive and sometimes hard to find, this book tells you where to go and even what you can substitute when you can't even find it at a specialty store. i'm happy to be a meat eater, but have more knowledge now on trying to eat better things than i did before.

I really thought this was going to be a lot about specific preparation guides and recipes. That's only half the book, frequently using ingredients I don't have a snowball's chance of finding - I'm disappointed.

This book is amazing and has so much good information and amazing recipes! I am very excited about learning how to make different choices and cook with different ingredients that I had no idea existed. I have decided to go vegan for my health and for all our animal friends out there too. This book is very kind and compassionate too.

Customer rating is 5 of 5  Great vegan book!   2010-03-06

This book is awesome. It introduces new vegans to new and different kinds of foods, and contains nutritional information about these foods. This book contains all the information you need to become a vegan and how you get all your daily nutritional needs (vitamins, minerals, protein, etc.) from plant-based foods. Not only is a vegan diet the best diet to be on for your health and well-being, but its also an inexpensive diet, and it doesn't have a negative impact on the planet like the meat industry does.
Even if you don't want to become a complete vegan, there are many wonderful recipes for those that love vegetable and grain dishes. Its a great book overall, so check it out!
